Dr. Joseph Newman, Podiatrist has been in private practice in West Des Moines with more than 25 years of experience. A Hawaii native, he came to Iowa and attended Des Moines University where he earned his Doctor of Podiaric Medicine degree (D.P.M.) and completed his Podiatric Orthopedics Residency there as well. He with his partner established Des Moines Foot and Ankle Associates, P.C. and after 6 years of experience, started his current practice here. Doctor Newman provides podiatric medical and surgical care, with an emphasis on providing the patient with as many nonsurgical treatment options as possible. Believing education is a critical component of quality and successful health care, he incorporates this in all of his treatments. As a lifelong student himself, he takes great effort to stay abreast in advances in podiatric medical and surgical care.
Doctor Newman is Board Certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine, and is a Fellow of the American College of Foot & Ankle Orthopedics and Medicine, as well as a Fellow of the Americal Professional Wound Care Association. He also holds memberships in the American Podiatric Medical Association, the Iowa Podiatric Medical Society, and the American Diabetes Association. Being primarily office-based, Doctor Newman holds Courtesy Staff appoinments at Unity Point- Des Moines hospitals Iowa Methodist Medical Center and Iowa Lutheran Hospital, as well as Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Doctor Newman is also a devoted family man that enjoys time with his wife and children as much as possible. He has a history of volunteering in his community, and supports arts and causes close to his heart. His personal interests include photography, cycling, record collecting, literature (history, philosophy, poetry) and hiking.
